Rip, Winkle! Twins rock out
CRYPTO bros Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss played their first gig with their band Wednesday at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory. Pumping out emo and pop-punk covers, one guest wondered if they’re available for weddings.
We exclusively reported last month that the Winklevoss twins — best known as the Harvard grads who sued Mark Zuckerberg, claiming he stole their idea for Facebook — are aspiring rock stars in their spare time.
“They’re good. It was cute,” an attendee told us of the performance. “They were doing covers. Someone said they wanted them to play at their wedding.” The brothers’ band is called
Mars Junction, seemingly a reference to a video game, “Warframe,” rather than every billionaire’s current obsession with space travel.
We hear they performed tracks by Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, U2, Nirvana, Kings of Leon and the Killers. When we reached out to reps for more info, they sent a press release stating that the Junction “plans to start writing its own original music in the coming months. In the meantime, they are bringing the party with your favorite, hard-hitting rock songs.”
The six-member act previously played to guests at Cameron’s Noho loft, which was outfitted with a professional stage and lighting. But it seems like they’ve actually got a bit of a following now that they’re out of the house.
“It was pretty crowded,” said a source, who also noted that it’s a small venue. “People were dancing and having fun. There were other bands, too — but most people stayed to watch them. It wasn’t just their friends; it was also people just looking for something to do.” The source assured us, “People bought tickets.”
We’re told that the Winklevii — creators of cryptocurrency exchange Gemini and, according to Forbes, worth $3 billion each — were also selling merch, with part of the proceeds going to the Human Rights Foundation’s Bitcoin Development Fund. They’re aiming to play another gig in late summer or the fall.
