The Senate voted Friday to move the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal forward to the next step.

In a 66-28 vote, the Senate opened the deal up to the amendment process. Sixteen Republicans voted alongside the 50 Democrats.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer hopes to have it passed before the recess starts on Aug. 9.
