Subways set rider record

- David Meyer

New York City subways set pandemic-era ridership records with the start of the school year this week, transit officials said Wednesday.

Ridership hit 2.77 million on Monday and 2.9 million on Tuesday, the MTA said, more than any day since the city went into COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020.

The subways have set COVID-19 ridership records four of the last six days.

Riders took 2.2 million subway trips on March 16, 2020, the day before Mayor de Blasio shut city schools and restaurants.
