Too big for their pants

IT has been an important news cycle for the prodigious egos of TV’s biggest male stars. First, it emerged that McDreamy was a McNightmare on the set of “Grey’s Anatomy.” Patrick Dempsey’s infamous departure during Season 11 of the ABC medical drama shocked fans. Now an excerpt from Lynette Rice’s upcoming book, “How To Save a Life: The Inside Story of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ” alleges Dempsey, 55, was “terrorizing the set.” Producer James D. Parriott, who was brought in to help craft his exit, claimed, “There were HR issues. It wasn’t sexual in any way. He sort of was terrorizing the set. Some cast members had all sorts of PTSD with him . . . He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people . . . I think he was just done with the show. He didn’t like the inconvenience of coming in every day and working. He and [creator] Shonda [Rhimes] were at each other’s throats.” Dempsey himself is quoted in the book saying, “It’s 10 months, 15 hours a day. You never know your schedule, so your kid asks you, ‘What are you doing on Monday?’ And you go, ‘I don’t know,’ because I don’t know my schedule. Doing that for 11 years is challenging.” Meanwhile, “Law & Order: Organized Crime” star Christopher Meloni is basking in his status as a sex symbol. Meloni became the talk of Twitter in April when a picture of his backside went viral. Then, he landed the cover of Men’s Health, in which he modestly admitted his derrière was having its own “cultural moment.” And during a talk at the 92nd Street Y this week, he thanked fans again for making him a sex symbol. Kathy Griffin certainly called it when she appeared on “Law & Order: SVU” and cheekily called Meloni’s character “AssyMcBigPants.”
