Deadly car-crash analogy by CEO
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri compared social media to car accidents that kill people, in response to a report that found the socialmedia platform is harmful to teenage girls.
“We know that more people die than would otherwise because of car accidents, but by and large, cars create way more value in the world than they destroy. And I think social media is similar,” Mosseri (inset) said Wednesday on a Recode Media podcast.
He added, though, that regulation of social media is needed.
Mosseri’s comments came after the podcast’s host, Peter Kafka, asked if he believes social media should be restricted or even banned in the light of the findings of an internal study conducted by Instagram parent Facebook.
