The rundown on hotly anticipated returning fall shows
THEY’RE back at last. Fall is often the time for exciting new shows, but it’s also when many hit shows return with highly anticipated new seasons. This year, since the pandemic upset filming in 2020, several series are returning after unusually long two-year breaks. If you’ve been waiting for your favorites but haven’t kept track of exactly when they’re coming back, here’s your essential guide.
“New Amsterdam”
Season 3 of the medical drama, which follows the staff at New Amsterdam Medical Center, ended with Max (Ryan Eggold) and Helen (Freema Agyeman) finally crossing the line from friends to more, thanks to a heartfelt confessional voicemail that Max left her. So, going into Season 4, expect more developments and drama in their relationship
Premiere date: Sept 21 at 10 p.m. on NBC
“Big Sky”
Season 1 of the hit crime drama followed the unlikely detective duo of Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick, “Vikings”) and Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) — who was involved with Jenny’s ex — as the two women searched for kidnapped women in Montana. Season 2 adds Logan Marshall Green to the cast. John Carroll Lynch is also set to return, which is surprising since his character Rick Legarski died at the hands of his wife in Season 1.
Premiere date: Sept 30 at 10 p.m. on ABC
“The Baby Sitter’s Club”
Season 1 of the family dramedy series followed five middle schoolers in Stonybrook, Connecticut, as they set up a babysitting business, including artsy Claudia (Momona Tamada) who struggled in school, sophisticated Stacey (Shay Rudolph), who was diagnosed with diabetes, and sporty Kristy (Sophie Grace). At the end of Season 1, the girls were made Counselors in Training at Camp Moosehead. Season 2 will see the club expanding and adding new members.
Premiere date: October 11 on Netflix
“Succession”
After a twoyear hiatus since the show last aired in 2019, the drama fueled Roy family returns for a third season. Season 2 ended with Kendall (Jeremy Strong) ambushing family patriarch Logan (Brian Cox) by going off-script at a press conference and blaming him for the company’s troubles. Meanwhile, Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) told Shiv (Sarah Snook) that he’s unhappy with their relationship. So, everyone is in hot water in both their personal and professional lives at the beginning of Season 3. Premiere date: October 17 at 9 p.m. on HBO
“You”
Season 2 of the satirical stalkerthriller, which aired in 2019, saw Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) move away from the New York world of Season 1 to greener pastures in LA. There, he found another woman to creepily obsess over: chef and health guru Love (Victoria Pedretti). In a surprise twist, however, Love eventually revealed that she was just as unhinged as Joe, and she was actually doing some murdering and stalking of her own. Season 3 sees them as a happy couple with a baby. Can two psychos have a regular family life, or will Joe return to his old ways and find a new obsession?
Premiere date: October 15th on Netflix
“The Sinner”
Season 3 of the anthology procedural series followed detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) as he attempted to help Jamie (Matt Bomer), an expectant father who was in a mysterious car accident. It ended with Harry traumatized after he was forced to kill an increasingly unhinged Jamie in self-defense. Season 4 will see Harry diving into the enigma of what happened to Percy Muldoon (Alice Kremelberg), the daughter of an affluent family on Hanover Island who appears to walk off a cliff. Premiere date: October 13th at 10 p.m. on USA
“Dickinson”
The third and final season of the irreverent Emily Dickinson comedy follows Emily (Hailee Steinfeld) during the Civil War, as she tries to keep hope alive through her art. The supporting cast will be as unexpected as usual, with Ziwe joining the cast as Sojourner Truth and Billy Eichner playing Walt Whitman.
Premiere date: November 5 on AppleTV+
