THE POST’S TOP TEN

-

1. Alabama (3-0) (Last week: 1)

Maybe everyone jumped the gun by anointing the Crimson Tide as the runaway favorite. They didn’t look so superior on Saturday in nearly blowing an 18-point lead to Florida and getting pushed around in the trenches.

2. Georgia (2-0) (2)

Georgia’s SEC opener felt more like a cupcake nonconference game — that’s how overwhelmed South Carolina was in the Bulldogs’ 40-13 cakewalk victory.

3. Oregon (3-0) (4)

True freshman Ty Thompson showed his immense promise when Anthony Brown went down with a minor injury, tossing two second-half touchdowns against FCS opponent Stony Brook. Oregon has options at quarterback, a good problem to have.

4. Penn State (3-0) (6)

After backing up its Week 1 win at Wisconsin with a home victory over Auburn on Saturday night, Penn

State has built a strong early-season résumé few teams can match.

5. Oklahoma (3-0) (3)

I’m no longer concerned about my national championship pick of the Sooners. I’ve come to realize I whiffed big time with the pick. Oklahoma, which has barely gotten by Tulane and Nebraska at home, is going to lose multiple games in the Big 12.

6. Iowa (3-0) (7)

The Hawkeyes have allowed 10 second-half points all year, keying their unexpected 3-0 start. Saturday’s win over Kent State was a struggle early, before Tyler Goodson took over, rushing for 153 yards and a careerhigh three scores.

7. Cincinnati (3-0) (10)

Cincinnati has outscored its last two opponents, Mercer and Indiana, by a combined 63-10 in the second half. That’s the sign of a well-coached, quality team.

8. Clemson (2-1) (5)

In three starts, D.J. Uiagalelei has thrown more interceptions (two) than touchdowns (one) and produced just 495 yards through the air. Clemson’s offense won’t find itself until the sophomore quarterback begins to resemble the player who was so impressive in two starts last year.

9. Ohio State (2-1) (8)

TreVeyon Henderson set an Ohio State freshman rushing record, snapping Archie Griffin’s 49-year-old mark by running for 277 yards and three scores. It was the bright spot of an uneven afternoon in Columbus, as the Buckeyes struggled to shake 24.5-point underdog Tulsa until the fourth quarter.

10. Texas A&M (3-0) (9)

Quarterback Zach Calzada looked much better this week, throwing for 275 yards and three scores in a rout of New Mexico, easing concerns entering Texas A&M’s SEC opener against surprising Arkansas next Saturday.
