Revel-er is killed in ‘DWI’
A Revel scooter rider was killed when a suspected drunken driver ran him over in Midtown late Sunday, authorities said.
Andreas Marino, 22, of the Upper East Side, was heading north in the First Avenue Tunnel, approaching East 48th Street, at around 11:15 p.m. when he lost control and was thrown from his ride, police said.
A 44-year-old man driving a Toyota Highlander ran him over moment later, cops said.
Marino was taken with severe head and body trauma to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The SUV driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, police said. Charges were pending on Monday.
The death followed an announcement by Revel and the city Department of Transportation that users of the shared mopeds are no longer permitted to ride on the Queensboro and Manhattan bridges.
Revel also eliminated the use of its mopeds between midnight to 5 a.m. — times when its data showed a higher rate of crashes.
Three riders died in the summer of 2020 after losing control on Revel mopeds, prompting the company to end service in the city that July before returning in late August.
