Saleh not worried about QB Wilson’s minor groin injury

- By ZACH BRAZILLER

Zach Wilson is dealing with a minor groin injury, though the Jets don’t expect it to limit him much this week. The rookie quarterback practiced fully on Wednesday, and head coach Robert Saleh brought up the issue unprompted.

“He just woke up a little bit sore,” Saleh said. “Since they touched him in the training room, I guess it’s got to go on the list. It’s not a concern.”

Wilson struggled in his MetLife Stadium debut Sunday, when he was intercepted four times in a lopsided loss to the Patriots, after finishing the team’s Week 1 loss to the Panthers strong. The mobile signalcaller hasn’t done much running yet, notching a total of 19 yards in two games.

“That’s a feel thing. I think he had a couple of scrambles in the [Patriots] game,” Saleh said. “He had one where he got tackled, it was negated because of a holding penalty, which we got the first down on. Then, he had one where he scrambled for a third-down conversion. That’s going to be more feel and as he gets comfortable.” into words what it felt like to struggle as he did in his NFL debut, when he made just one catch for minus-3 yards on four targets in the opener against the Panthers.

“It’s a feeling you can’t really explain,” the secondround pick said. “It’s just something moving forward [that] I know how to attack better. It’s unexplainable.” Moore performed better this past Sunday, catching four passes on eight targets for 47 yards. He said he felt more comfortable, but that the loss negated any positives of his performance. This week, Saleh was walking around the facility after hours when he heard chatter coming out of the receivers’ room. It was Moore and position coach Miles Austin.

“[Moore] is deliberate, and he wants to be great, he wants to be special and he demonstrates that every day,” Saleh said. “Now it’s just a matter of trusting what you do and take it to the football field on Sunday, and go let it loose. I think it’s just a matter of time before that happens.”

John Franklin-Myers (calf) didn’t practice, but Saleh expects the DE to play on Sunday. The Jets hope to get LB Jamien Sherwood (ankle) back this week after he missed the game against the Patriots. WR Jamison Crowder (groin) didn’t practice.

The Jets placed LB B.J. Goodson on the reserve/ retired list on Wednesday. The 28-year-old appeared in seven plays on special teams Sunday. He was a fourth-round pick of the Giants in 2016 and played for the Browns last year. The Jets signed him to a one-year deal in September.
