Irish win makes Kelly top N.D. winner

Chris Tyree returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown and Drew Pyne threw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter in relief of an injured Jack Coan, helping No. 12 Notre Dame beat No. 18 Wisconsin, 41-13, on Saturday at Soldier Field in Chicago.

The Fighting Irish (4-0) scored 31 points in the fourth quarter to make Brian Kelly the winningest coach in Notre Dame history with victory No. 106, surpassing Knute Rockne in his 12th season at the university.

Graham Mertz was intercepte­d four times for the Badgers (1-2), including two that were returned for touchdowns in the final 2:30 to blow the game open.

Michigan 20, Rutgers 13

In Ann Arbor, Mich., Hassan Haskins ran for touchdowns the first two times No. 19 Michigan had the ball and the undefeated Wolverines (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) held on to beat Rutgers (3-1, 0-1).

The Scarlet Knights rallied from a 17-point, third-quarter deficit to pull within seven early in the fourth quarter, but Valentino Ambrosio missed a short field goal.

Rutgers got the ball with 1:49 left and no timeouts. Two snaps later, quarterbac­k Noah Vedral fumbled for his team’s first turnover of the season.

Isaih Pacheco had 107 yards rushing for the Scarlet Knights.

Alabama 63, Southern Miss 14

In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Jameson Williams opened the game with a 100-yard kickoff return, then added an 81-yard touchdown catch and another 83-yard runback in No. 1 Alabama’s (4-0) rout of Southern Miss (1-3).

Georgia 62, Vanderbilt 0

In Nashville, Tenn., JT Daniels threw for 121 yards and two touchdowns despite playing only the first quarter as No. 2 Georgia (4-0, 2-0 SEC) dominated Vanderbilt (1-3, 0-1).

Oklahoma 16, West Virginia 13

In Norman, Okla., Gabe Brkic’s 30yard field goal as time expired lifted No. 4 Oklahoma (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) over West Virginia (2-2, 0-1).

Iowa 24, Colorado St. 14

In Iowa City, Spencer Petras threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns, and No. 5 Iowa (4-0) needed a second-half comeback to defeat Colorado State (1-3) for the Hawkeyes’ 10th consecutiv­e win.

Penn St. 38, Villanova 17

In State College, Pa., Sean Clifford passed for four touchdowns and a career-high 401 yards, leading No. 6 Penn State (4-0) over Villanova (3-1).

Ohio State 59, Akron 7

In Columbus, Ohio, true freshman quarterbac­k Kyle McCord overcame early jitters to throw for 319 yards and two touchdowns, freshman TreVeyon Henderson ran for 93 yards and two scores in the first half, and No. 10 Ohio State (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) routed Akron (1-4).

Florida 38, Tennessee 14

In Gainesvill­e, Fla., Emory Jones had two touchdown passes to go with a career-high 144 yards rushing, leading No. 11 Florida (3-1, 1-1 SEC) to a over Tennessee (2-2, 0-1).

Arkansas 20, Texas A&M 10

In Arlington, Texas, KJ Jefferson threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns before getting banged up to start the second half and No. 16 Arkansas (4-0, 1-0 SEC) held on to beat seventh-ranked Texas A&M (3-1, 0-1).

UCLA 35, Stanford 24

In Stanford, Calif., Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and also ran for two short scores to help No. 24 UCLA (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12) beat Stanford (2-2, 1-1).
