Cuomo lawyer tries a Tish tack
Andrew Cuomo’s attorney used the disgraced ex-governor’s campaign Web site Wednesday to claim that an exclusive report by The Post showed Attorney General Letitia James violated the terms of her deal to commission the independent sexualharassment investigation that forced him from office.
During a livestreamed news conference, lawyer Rita Glavin also said the Oct. 1 scoop — about a speech in which James hinted she might mount a campaign for governor next year — proved the attorney general had a “political conflict” that tainted the probe.
“At a Sept. 30, 2021, Ulster County Democratic dinner, she admitted that she was personally involved in the investigation,” Glavin said of James.
Glavin then read aloud from The Post’s report and quoted James as saying that unspecified Cuomo accusers “came into my office and told me about the fact that Albany was toxic. How they were harassed.”
Glavin said James’ remarks made it “clear that she did not hand the reins of the investigation totally over to an independent law firm,” as Glavin said was required to under terms of a March 1 letter in which Cuomo authorized the AG to hire an outside law firm to conduct the probe.
Glavin also said James’ political ambitions gave her “a motive to draw every possible inference against the governor, who was a political rival and planned to run for a fourth term.”
Also Wednesday, Glavin demanded James appoint a “truly independent reviewer” to consider a 150page submission from Cuomo that raises objections to the report the AG released in August, which found that he sexually harassed 11 women, including nine current or former state employees.
In a prepared statement, James spokesman Fabien Levy said, “Another day, another baseless attack by the former governor.”
