OFFENSE

Sure, Mike Glennon threw two touchdown passes and ran for another TD. But, well, you know. He was 17 of 36 for 191 yards, threw an interception and the passing attack was lousy. A 13-yard run by Saquon Barkley (16-64) pushed him over 60 yards in a game for the first time this season. Barkley had an 18-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter. … TE Kyle Rudolph’s 60-yard catch and run was the longest of his career. Two TDs in the last 4:33 made this all look a little better than it actually was.

F DEFENSE

This group knew how strong of an arm Justin Herbert has and yet he torched the Giants with a 59-yard TD to Jalen Guyton at the end of the first half. Herbert (23 of 31, 275 yards, 3 TDs) did as he pleased. Giving up 152 rushing yards was painful, with Austin Ekeler (12-67, TD) the leader of the pack. Secondary also gave up receptions of 36 and 25 yards, which is unusual.

F SPECIAL TEAMS

When is a 50-yard punt from Riley Dixon not a good punt? When it bounces into the end zone early in the first quarter. In the second quarter the execution was much better, as Dixon’s 63-yard punt was downed by Keion Crossen on the 4-yard line. Graham Gano is usually excellent on kickoffs but he sent the first one rolling out of bounds, which is highly uncharacteristic of him. Finally a fake punt! But Dixon’s throw sailed too high.

B COACHING

Everyone said the time spent away in Tucson — Joe Judge’s brainchild — was beneficial, as far as team bonding. But none of the positive energy translated onto the field. In most games, Patrick Graham’s defense is able to keep the team somewhat close but this was a glaring exception, as there were no answers for what the Chargers were doing. Would have liked to see play-caller Freddie Kitchens run the ball more often.
