A bond since school prom is shattered

Rivera wife’s emotional post

- Gabrielle Fonrouge

The widow of slain cop Jason Rivera revealed heartbreaking details on Monday about their life together, including that they were childhood sweethearts and the he wanted to have kids one day.

Dominique shared images of two letters the newlywed couple wrote to each other in high school and photos of them at the prom together (above).

“Most of you just met me or probably don’t know me at all,” she wrote on Instagram. “Probably don’t even know my name. But for those who knew Jason and I, our love goes way back. Way back to little kids that didn’t know anything about love; but yet expressed it.”

The couple had married only this past October, three months before the 22-year-old cop was killed Friday night while responding to a domestic-violence call in Harlem.

Dominique, who called Rivera her “beautiful angel” in a post on Sunday, also shared on Monday a video that her husband had recorded of himself in March while the couple was out at a bar.

“You’re in the bathroom right now, I just want to tell you how much I love you,” Rivera says in the clip. “I love you a lot, baby. I want to marry you, I want you to have my kids.”

The letters Dominique shared appeared to have been written in her and Rivera’s yearbooks while they were in high school.

“You have been one of my best friends and I trusted you a lot. I’ve never had a relationship so close like I had with you,” Dominique had written to Rivera, wishing him good luck in school.

In his letter to her, Rivera called her his “best friend in the whole entire school.”

“You have been a very good friend,” he wrote. “Although you dumped me, everyday I think about how to get you back.”

The note concludes, “I don’t know if I have told you this but I am in love with Dominique.”

Dominique noted in a caption that “years later” he succeeded in winning her heart again.

“You made it happen my baby,” she wrote. “For us. Now I gotta make things happen for you, you left me with the hardest task but I’m going to do it for you.”

Rivera and Officer Wilbert Mora, 27, were shot Friday by Lashawn McNeil, 47. Mora remained in critical condition. McNeil, who was shot by police, died of his wounds on Monday.
