NHL: Stars defeat Devils

Joe Pavelski had two goals and two assists, and the Stars extended their winning streak to four games with a 5-1 victory over the Devils on Tuesday night at Prudential Center in Newark.

Jesper Bratt scored his fourth goal in the last three games for New Jersey, which is 1-5 in its last six. Devils top goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood was placed on injured reserve earlier in the day with a heel injury.

In Raleigh, N.C., Sebastian Aho’s second goal of the game 3:49 into overtime gave the Hurricanes a 4-3 victory over the Golden Knights after Carolina blew a twogoal lead late in regulation.

NBA: Clippers get historic victory

Luke Kennard converted a four-point play with 1.9 seconds to play as the Clippers overcame a 35-point deficit to post a 116-115 victory over the Wizards in Washington. The result tied the second-largest comeback in NBA history, when the Kings escaped a 35point hole against the Bulls on Dec. 21, 2009.

In San Francisco, Stephen Curry had 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, rookie Jonathan Kuminga put on a show in the fourth and scored 22 points, and the Warriors routed the Mavericks 130-92.

It was a tough night for Dallas seeing Tim Hardaway Jr. go down with a broken fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot.

Joel Embiid scored 12 of his 42 points in the fourth quarter as the 76ers pulled away from the short-handed Pelicans for a 117-107 win in Philadelph­ia.

In Toronto, Gary Trent Jr. scored a season-best 32 as the Raptors defeated the Hornets 125-113.

NFL: Bears choose Poles as GM

The Bears hired 36-year-old Ryan Poles as the team’s general manger. Chicago interviewe­d Poles on Friday. The 36-year-old spent the past 13 seasons in a variety of roles with the Chiefs and was promoted to executive director of player personnel in advance of the 2021 season.

Browns executive Kwesi AdofoMensa­h was hired as the Vikings’ new general manager. Adofo-Mensah, 40, interviewe­d with the Vikings on Jan. 17. He spent the past two seasons as the vice president of football operations for the Browns. NCAA: Maryland upends Rutgers

Fatts Russell scored a season-high 23 points, Eric Ayala added 22 and the two combined to bury 10 3-pointers to help Maryland get past Rutgers 68-60 in Piscataway.

Geo Baker and Ron Harper Jr. scored 16 points apiece for Rutgers.

In Columbia, Mo., K.D. Johnson scored 17 points, including five straight within the final 90 seconds, and No. 1 Auburn survived a scare from Missouri, winning 55-54 in the program’s first-ever game as the nation’s top-ranked team.

Jules Bernard and Johnny Juzang each had 15 points to help No. 7 UCLA beat No. 3 Arizona 75-59 at Pauley Pavillion.

Trent Frazier scored a game-high 16 points, and No. 24 Illinois held on to beat No. 10 Michigan State 56-55.
