NHL: Hughes in COVID protocol

Devils center Jack Hughes has been placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list after participat­ing and starring in the league’s All-Star festivitie­s in Las Vegas over the weekend. The Devils announced the move Sunday.

The 20-year-old Hughes, the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft, has 12 goals and 15 assists in 28 games this season.

NFL: Fish hire McDaniel as coach

The Dolphins hired 49ers offensive coordinato­r Mike McDaniel as their head coach, making him the first minority candidate to get hired this offseason.

McDaniel, who is biracial, replaces Brian Flores, who was fired despite posting winning records in the final two of his three seasons in Miami. McDaniel had worked under 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan for the past 11 seasons and gets his first shot as a head coach after one year as offensive coordinato­r.

The Texans are in talks with assistant coach Lovie Smith for their head coaching vacancy, a person familiar with the meetings told The Associated Press.

Justin Herbert threw two touchdown passes, Mac Jones added one and the AFC held on for a 41-35 win over the NFC in the Pro Bowl.

NBA: Embiid leads Philly past Bulls

Joel Embiid dominated with 40 points and 10 rebounds and the 76ers overcame DeMar DeRozan’s season-high, 45-point game to beat the Bulls 119-108 in Chicago.

In Dallas, Luka Doncic had a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, Jalen Brunson scored 22 points despite both of them being in foul trouble and Dallas beat Atlanta 103-94.

In Minneapoli­s, Karl-Anthony Towns had 24 points and 12 rebounds and Minnesota beat Detroit, 118-105, for its fourth straight victory.

In Cleveland, Cedi Osman scored 22 points and Kevin Love had 19 as the Cavaliers rallied from 20 down to beat Indiana 98-85.

In Los Angeles, Giannis Antetokoun­mpo had 28 points, Jrue Holiday added 27 and Milwaukee routed the Clippers 137-113.

ETC.: Iona falls to Niagara

Marcus Hammond had 26 points as Niagara topped Iona 80-71 in Lewiston, N.Y., ending the Gaels’ eight-game winning streak. Noah Thomasson added 23 points for the Purple Eagles (11-11, 6-7 MAAC). Elijah Joiner had 22 points for the Gaels (19-4, 11-1).

In Washington, Georgetown (6-15, 0-10 Big East) set a school record with its 11th straight loss as Jared Bynum scored a career-high 32 points and led No. 15 Providence (20-2, 10-1) to a 71-52 victory.

In Buffalo, Jordan Henderson had 19 points as Canisius (8-16, 4-9) beat Manhattan (11-9, 4-7) 77-70.

In Jersey City, Daryl Banks III registered 13 points as St. Peter’s (11-8, 9-3) defeated Marist (8-13, 3-9) 66-50.

In Pebble Beach, Calif., Tom Hoge made four birdies on the back nine to pass Jordan Spieth and claim his first PGA Tour victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai told a French newspaper that internatio­nal concern over her well-being is based on “an enormous misunderst­anding” and she denied having accused a high-ranking Chinese official of sexual assault.
