MLB: McClanahan, Rays swat Sawx

Shane McClanahan became Tampa Bay’s first starting pitcher to get a win this season as the Rays overcame a two-run, first-inning deficit and beat the Red Sox, 5-2, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Pinch-hitter Ji-Man Choi had a tying, two-run double as the Rays rallied for three runs in the fifth.

● In Houston, rookie Jeremy Pena hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to lift the Astros to an 8-7 win over the Blue Jays and avoid a sweep. The Astros snapped a fourgame skid and ended Toronto’s four-game winning streak.

● In Philadelph­ia, Eric Lauer struck out a career-high 13 over six innings, Christian Yelich hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth and the Brewers beat the Phillies, 1-0.

● In Atlanta, Garrett Cooper had three hits and two RBIs, Avisail Garcia hit a goahead double in the fifth inning, and the Marlins held on to beat the Braves, 5-4.

● In Seattle, Jesse Winker capped an 11-pitch at-bat with a broken-bat single into right field to score Adam Frazier, and the Mariners beat the Royals, 5-4, in 12 innings to complete a three-game sweep. ● In Minneapoli­s, Byron Buxton hit his second homer of the game, a 469-foot, three-run drive that overcame a 10th-inning deficit and lifted the Twins over the White Sox, 6-4.

Before the game, Chicago placed outfielder Eloy Jimenez on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain, an injury that is expected to cause him to miss six to eight weeks.

● In Washington, Joc Pederson homered twice, doubled and drove in three runs to help the Giants rout the Nationals, 12-3 for the series sweep. Pederson moved to the leadoff spot after Mike Yastrzemsk­i was placed on the COVID-19 list Sunday morning.

● In San Diego, Cody Bellinger homered twice and drove in four runs, leading Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers over the Padres, 10-2.

● In Anaheim, Calif., Jo Adell hit a grand slam, Shohei Ohtani scored the goahead run on a bases-loaded walk, and the Angels beat the Orioles, 7-6, despite blowing a six-run, first-inning lead.

In Cincinnati, the Reds ended an 11game losing streak by beating the Cardinals, 4-1, as former first-round draft pick Nick Lodolo got his first major league win.
