House GOPers rip Mayorkas on crisis
More than 50 House Republican blasted Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ response to the growing border crisis over the weekend, questioning his “suitability for office.”
In a letter sent to the secretary Sunday, the lawmakers claimed he had dismantled “the security of our nation’s southern border” and disregarded “the enforcement of US immigration laws.”
“Your actions have willingly endangered American citizens, undermined the rule of law and our nation’s sovereignty. Your failure to secure the border and enforce the laws passed by Congress raise grave questions about your suitability for office,” wrote the Republicans, led by Border Security Caucus co-Chair Brian Babin (Texas) and Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Banks (Ind.).
The letter, first obtained by Fox News Digital, was also signed by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Minority Whip Steve Scalise (La.) and Minority Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (NY).
The lawmakers pointed to Mayorkas’ rejection of former President Donald Trump’s Remain in Mexico policy, saying it demonstrated his “willingness to embrace an open-borders agenda that undermines America’s safety.”
