MLB: Dodgers’ Bauer sues accuser

Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer sued the woman who accused him of sexual assault in federal court Monday, in a move that came less than three months after prosecutor­s decided not to file criminal charges against the athlete.

The San Diego woman, whom the pitcher had met through social media, had alleged that Bauer beat and sexually abused her last year. She later sought — but was denied — a restrainin­g order against him.

In Phoenix, Walker Buehler tossed a three-hitter for his first career shutout, Will Smith launched a solo homer and the Dodgers beat the Diamondbac­ks, 4-0.

Bo Bichette broke an eighth-inning tie with his first career grand slam and the Blue Jays beat the slumping Red Sox, 6-2, in Toronto.

In Philadelph­ia, Bryce Harper homered and drove in two runs, Rhys Hoskins had three hits and the Phillies took advantage of several defensive miscues by the Rockies in an 8-2 victory.

NBA: Morant wins Most Improved

Grizzlies guard Ja Morant picked up the NBA’s Most Improved Player award, adding it to his trophy case next to the Rookie of the Year honor he received two seasons ago.

Morant set career bests in scoring (27.4 points per game), rebounds (5.7), steals (1.2) and field-goal shooting (49.3 percent). His scoring average last season was 19.1 per game, and he made the big jump while playing basically the same amount of minutes.

NFL: Va. inquiry into Commanders

Virginia’s attorney general has launched an inquiry into the Washington Commanders following allegation­s of financial impropriet­ies raised by a congressio­nal committee.

The Patriots dealt a fifth-round pick (170th overall) to Houston for a sixthround pick (183rd overall) and seventhrou­nd pick (245th overall) in this week’s draft.
