NHL: Panthers clinch series win

Carter Verhaeghe scored the overtime winner at the 2:46 mark to send the Panthers to the second round by beating the Capitals 4-3 in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference first-round series. It’s the franchise’s first playoff series victory since 1996, when Florida reached the Stanley Cup final.

In Dallas, Miro Heiskanen scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period for the Stars, who recovered after blowing an early two-goal lead and beat the Flames 4-2 to force a deciding Game 7 in their first-round Western Conference series.
