-

The Padres officially signed veteran infielder Robinson Cano on Friday, hours before an 11-6 road win against the Braves.

Cano, 39, was released by the Mets on Sunday. The club designated Cano for assignment on May 2 and he was let go after clearing waivers.

Cano, an eight-time All-Star, was batting just .195 with one homer and three RBIs in 12 games with the Mets.

Jose Altuve homered on the first pitch of the game, Yordan Alvarez and Yuli Gurriel also went deep and the Astros extended their winning streak to 11 games with a 6-1 rout of the Nationals in Washington.

In St. Petersburg, Fla., Brandon Lowe hit a pair of triples and Manuel Margot had a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning, leading the Rays to a 5-2 victory over the Blue Jays.

Trevor Bauer’s arbitration appeal of his unprecedented two-year suspension under Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy has been scheduled to start May 23, a person familiar with the hearing told The Associated Press.
