SOCCER: NYCFC wins; Red Bulls draw

Talles Magno scored early in the ninth minute and Valentin Castellano­s added a second-half goal to power New York City FC to a 2-0 victory over the Columbus Crew in MLS play Saturday night at Yankee Stadium.

NYCFC went 4-0-1 on a five-match homestand split between Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, outscoring the visitors 16-4 overall.

In Chester, Pa., Luquinhas scored the tying goal in the 66th minute as the Red Bulls recorded a 1-1 draw against the Philadelph­ia Union. despite being down to 10 men for most of the second half. The Red Bulls pushed their unbeaten streak to five games.

NFL: Ex-Seahawk Thomas arrested Former Seahawks safety Earl Thomas has been arrested in Texas more than two weeks after a warrant was issued over an alleged violation of a protective order. Television station KBMT in Beaumont reported Thomas was arrested Friday in Orange, where he played high school football. The station reported the three-time All-Pro was recognized at a restaurant.

The arrest warrant was issued last month in Austin, where Thomas played in college for the Texas Longhorns.

MLB: Jays end 5-game skid Teoscar Hernandez and Danny Jansen homered in the eighth inning and the Blue Jays beat the Rays 5-1 in St. Petersburg, Fla. to end a five-game skid.

In St. Louis, Dakota Hudson and a quartet of relievers combined to help the Cardinals stop San Francisco’s six-game winning streak, blanking the Giants 4-0 .

In Atlanta, Austin Riley hit a tiebreakin­g double during a four-run rally in the eighth inning that lifted the Braves to a 6-5 victory over the Padres.

GOLF: Lee keeps Founders lead Minjee Lee, the 25-year-old LPGA Tour scoring leader, moved to within a round of posting her first win of the year and seventh of her career at the Cognizant Founders Cup in Clifton, N.J.

Lee had an eagle-birdie run on the back nine and shot a 3-under 69 to take a oneshot lead over Madelene Sagstrom of Sweden on a day Upper Montclair Country Club showed some teeth with the wind picking up early and rain falling on the leaders for the final 11 holes.

In McKinney, Texas, Sebastian Muñoz shared the lead with Jordan Spieth at the Byron Nelson Tournament. Muñoz shot a 6-under 66 and was 21 under, a stroke ahead of hometown favorite Spieth, who shot a 64.

In Birmingham, Ala., Steve Stricker took a three-stroke lead over Steven Alker into the final round of the Regions Tradition, birdieing the final hole for a 6-under 66.

TENNIS: Djokovic reaches final Top-ranked Novak Djokovic beat Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-3 at the Italian Open in Rome to reach his biggest final of the year.

Djokovic will take on Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final on Sunday after Tsitsipas reached his first Rome final by rallying past Alexander Zverev 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Top-ranked Iga Swiatek routed Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-1 for her 27th straight win and reached the Italian Open final. Swiatek will face another player on a run, Ons Jabeur, who beat Daria Kasatkina 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 for her 11th consecutiv­e victory after lifting the Madrid Open trophy last week. HOCKEY: Finland, Germany win
