MLB: Phillies sweep Nats

In Washington, J.T. Realmuto hit a go-ahead two-run single in the 10th inning with the aid of an obstructio­n call, and the Phillies won 8-7 to complete a doublehead­er sweep of the Nationals in Washington their 14th victory in 16 games. Bryce Harper had three hits against his old team, helping the Phillies win 5-3 in the opener.

In Boston, Michael Wacha pitched 5 ¹/3 innings of one-run ball against his former team as the Red Sox held on for a 6-5 win over the Cardinals.

In Baltimore, Dean Kremer pitched six scoreless innings and rookie Adley Rutschman singled home the game’s only run in the seventh as the Orioles won 1-0 to send Tampa Bay to its fourth straight loss.

In Houston, Michael Brantley clubbed his third career grand slam as part of a 10run sixth inning and the Astros slugged their way to a 13-3 win over the White Sox.

NFL: Washington punished for OTAs

A person with knowledge of the decision said the NFL has fined the Commanders $100,000 and stripped the team of two offseason workouts next year because of excessive contact in practice among players.

The fine, which was first reported by ESPN, applies to coach Ron Rivera, who was incensed by one particular hit during organized team activities to the point he stopped practice to lecture his team. Safety Jeremy Reaves made significan­t contact with second-year receiver Dyami Brown during practice without pads June 8.

NASCAR: Bowyer killed pedestrian

Former NASCAR driver and Fox Sports analyst Clint Bowyer struck and killed a pedestrian on a highway in southwest Missouri earlier this month, police said.

The crash occurred June 5 on an exit ramp off of U.S 54 near Osage Beach, Mo., according to a crash report from Lake Ozark, Mo., police. The crash report says Bowyer showed no signs of impairment and provided a roadside blood sample that showed no trace of alcohol.

Bowyer, a native of Emporia, Kan., stopped immediatel­y after the collision and called 911, police said. The woman, 47year-old Mary Jane Simmons, of Camdenton, died at the scene.

ETC.: Davidson coach retires

Longtime Davidson men’s basketball coach Bob McKillop, a New York native, is retiring, ending a run that included coaching NBA star Stephen Curry with the Wildcats and ranking among the winningest active Division I coaches.

McKillop announced his retirement at a campus news conference, effective at the end of the month. His son, associate head coach and former Wildcats player Matt McKillop, will take over as coach after working on his father’s staff as an assistant since 2008.

Jackson Nicklaus hit a grand slam, Jake Bennett pitched six strong innings and Oklahoma jumped on No. 5 national seed Texas A&M early in a 13-8 win in the College World Series opener in Omaha, Neb.

John Michael Bertrand and two relievers held Texas’ potent offense in check and Notre Dame scored in all kinds of ways in a 7-3 victory in its first CWS game in 20 years.

In Belmont, Mich., Jennifer Kupcho opened a two-stroke lead over defending champion Nelly Korda in the LPGA Meijer Classic, shooting a 5-under 67 in windy conditions for her second straight bogey-free round.
