Daly ‘begged’ to get on Saudi-backed league
It seems as if Greg Norman is trying to get every golfer he can to play for LIV Golf. Well, everyone except John Daly.
Daly made an appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” on Wednesday and revealed just how badly he wants to be a part of the LIV Golf Invitational Series.
“I begged Greg Norman to let me be on the LIV tour,” Daly said.
Daly, 56, said he thinks LIV is vastly superior to the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions, in which Daly plays.
“Look, I’d rather play with amateurs than the pros sometimes, but we’ve gotta get compensated for that,” Daly continued. “The LIV tour is giving players that. They play proams, it’s a big party, they play for a lot of money, which these guys that are on that tour, deserve that money. And I think there’s a lot of other guys that deserve that money.”
Daly admitted that he may be too old, but also that Norman may be slowing down his recruiting for LIV.
“Greg says he’s not doing anymore,” Daly said.
Daly also mentioned his conversations with Bryson DeChambeau at the British Open, in which he was told that LIV Golf “is the greatest thing on earth. We still play a pro-am. … We play for a lot of money, which we deserve to play for.”
Maybe Norman eventually will make an exception to bring the eccentric personality of Daly into LIV Golf. He definitely fits in with the likes of DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson. For the time being, though, it seems LIV is set.
