WE NEED ANSWERS ASAP: GOP

- By MARK MOORE and EMILY CRANE

Former Vice President Mike Pence and leading House Republicans demanded an immediate explanation Tuesday from the Justice Department and the FBI over Monday’s raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

“I share the deep concern of millions of Americans over the unprecedented search of the personal residence of President Trump,” Pence said on Twitter. “No former President of the United States has ever been subject to a raid of their personal residence in American history.”

“Yesterday’s action undermines public confidence in our system of justice and Attorney General [Merrick] Garland must give a full accounting to the American people as to why this action was taken and he must do so immediately,” the exveep added.

Rep. Jim Jordan, the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, also implored Garland to answer questions at once — while fellow Ohioan Mike Turner, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, called for an urgent briefing from FBI Director Christopher Wray.

“What was on the warrant? What were you really doing? What were you looking for? Why not talk to President Trump and have him give the information you’re after? This is unbelievable,” Jordan said in a Monday night interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, adding: “We deserve answers now.”

In a letter to Wray, Turner called the raid on Trump’s home “unprecedented.”

“As the ranking member on the committee, I am unaware of any actual or alleged national security threat posed by any information, data or documents in the possession of former President Trump,” he wrote. “Congress deserves immediate answers from you as to the actions you ordered.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) said the Justice Department should give a full accounting right away.

“The country deserves a thorough and immediate explanation of what led to the events of Monday,” McConnell said in a statement. “Attorney General Garland and the Department of Justice should already have provided answers to the American people and must do so immediately.”
