MLB: Figueroa returns to the hill

Former Major League pitcher Nelson Figueroa came out of retirement Tuesday at the age of 48 with the Staten Island Ferryhawks and pitched seven innings , allowing eight earned runs, in the Ferryhawks’ 10-5 loss to Gastonia in the first game of a doublehead­er in Staten Island.

Figueroa, who is the pitching coach for the Ferryhawks and co-host of the Amazin’ But True podcast, threw 119 pitches in a seven-inning complete game defeat.

J.T. Realmuto homered, doubled and drove in two runs, Zack Wheeler allowed one run in six sharp innings and the streaking Phillies beat the Marlins 4-1 for their sixth straight victory in Philadelph­ia.

In Boston, Austin Riley had a goahead, two-run single in the 11th inning and the Braves rallied to the beat the Red Sox 9-7 and snap its first three-game losing streak of the year.

In Milwaukee, Andrew McCutchen and Kolten Wong each drove in two runs and the Brewers broke out of their slump to beat the Rays 5-3. The Brewers won for just the second time in eight games.

In Baltimore, Rougned Odor hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Orioles rallied past the Blue Jays 6-5.

In Detroit, Shane Bieber pitched seven dominant innings, Oscar Gonzalez drove in two runs and the Guardians beat the Tigers 5-2 for their third straight win.
