THE POST’S TOP TEN
■ 1. Georgia (3-0) (Last week: 1)
South Carolina didn’t belong on the same field as Georgia — in its own stadium. Somehow, the Bulldogs seem to be getting better weekly.
■ 2. Alabama (3-0) (2)
The schedule gets real after another glorified scrimmage Saturday, with the punching bag known as Vanderbilt coming to Tuscaloosa. Games against Arkansas, Texas A&M and improved Tennessee will be revealing tests the following three weeks.
■ 3. Ohio State (3-0) (3)
Forget the 77-21 final score. The most important aspect of Ohio State’s bludgeoning of Toledo was the return of standout receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Fleming.
■ 4. Clemson (3-0) (4)
It’s hard to take much from the Tigers’
three wins by lopsided results since the level of opposition was so poor. Saturday at Wake Forest will be much more revealing.
■ 5. Michigan (3-0) (5)
After blowing out patsies Colorado State, Hawaii and Connecticut, Michigan’s Big Ten slate starts with three of the league’s worst teams in Maryland, Iowa and Indiana. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a softer 6-0.
■ 6. USC (3-0) (6)
It’s still too early to anoint USC as a legit playoff contender, when its three opponents are a combined 4-6. The offense appears electric, but the defense has been soft against the run, allowing 177 yards per game.
■ 7. Oklahoma (3-0) (7)
You knew the Sooners’ defense would improve under new coach Brent Venables, but the offense and Dillon
Gabriel piling up 127 points has to be somewhat of a surprise.
■ 8. Arkansas (3-0) (8)
The best thing about Saturday’s ugly win over Missouri State is it ended without disaster after Arkansas dug itself an early 17-point hole. This was no way to prepare for the coming crucible of Texas A&M and Alabama in consecutive weeks.
■ 9. Oklahoma State (3-0) (9)
It’s revenge week for the Cowboys as they visit Baylor in a rematch of last year’s Big 12 title game. Oklahoma State was 1 yard shy of pulling it out, which will no doubt be topic of discussion in Stillwater leading up to Saturday.
■ 10. Kentucky (3-0) (NR)
The Wildcats own one of the better wins of the season, a victory at Florida, and could find themselves 7-0 if they can survive an Oct. 1 visit to Ole Miss.
Dropped out: Miami (2-1)
