NBA: Heat to extend Herro for 4-years, $130M

The Heat and reigning Sixth Man of the Year Award winner Tyler Herro have reached an agreement on a four-year, $130 million contract, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowsk­i reported Sunday.

Herro, 22, averaged 20.7 points, five rebounds and four assists over 32.6 minutes and 66 games in his third season since Miami drafted him in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft.

MLB: Phils win, stay in thick of wild-card hunt

The Phillies picked up another key victory as they try to end an 11-year playoff drought, using three RBIs apiece from Kyle Schwarber and Bryson Stott, plus Zack Wheeler’s five scoreless innings, to beat the Nationals 8-1 Sunday in a rain-shortened game in Washington.

The Phillies and interim manager Rob Thomson began Sunday with a one-game lead over the Brewers for the third and final wild-card berth in the National League. After Sunday, Philadelph­ia and Milwaukee both have three games left: Philadelph­ia at Houston, and Milwaukee hosting Arizona. The Phillies hold the tiebreaker over the Brewers if they finish even.

In St. Louis, Albert Pujols hit his 702nd career home run and tied Babe Ruth for second on the all-time RBI list, but the Pirates took the game from the Cardinals 7-5.

In Toronto, Teoscar Hernández hit two home runs, Whit Merrifield also connected and the Blue Jays edged closer to clinching home-field advantage in the wild-card round by beating the Red Sox, 6-3.

In Houston, Jeremy Pena hit an early two-run homer and drove in an insurance run late, lifting the Astros to a 3-1 victory over the Rays.

The Padres clinched a playoff spot while batting in the seventh inning against the White Sox, drawing a roar from the sellout crowd of 41,407 after the Marlins beat the Brewers 4-3 in 12 innings.

In Chicago, Willson Contreras got several standing ovations in what could be his final home game at Wrigley Field, Marcus Stroman threw six scoreless innings and the surging Cubs won their seventh straight, beating the Reds, 8-1.

ETC.: NYCFC rally to clinch home playoff game

Talles Magno scored in the 81st minute as New York City FC rallied for a 2-1 victory over Orlando City SC to clinch a home playoff game.

Wisconsin fired head coach Paul Chryst after a 2-3 start to his eighth season leading the school where he played in the city where he grew up.

Colorado fired football coach Karl Dorrell after an 0-5 start in which the Buffaloes have been blown out by more than 20 points in each game. It’s only the fourth 0-5 start in the history of Colorado.

In Talladega, Ala., Chase Elliott raced his way into the next round of the playoffs with a victory at Talladega Superspeed­way in the first clean race yet of this postseason. Elliott is the first driver through five playoff races to automatica­lly advance into the next round with a victory, and he reclaimed the lead atop the Cup standings.
