Comic hit amid love drama

-

SEEMS he got the punch line. Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Redd was rushed to a hospital Wednesday night in NYC, Page Six has learned, after being sucker-punched outside the Comedy Cellar — amid reports that he’s dating his former costar’s estranged wife.

Sources say that Redd appeared to have been targeted by two men, who seemed to be waiting for him.

Sources say the comic arrived at the famed Macdougal Street club to perform a 15-minute set and he was hanging outside at around 9:30 p.m. when one of the men approached him and slugged him “out of nowhere,” according to a source, before running off. “There was blood everywhere,” we’re told. Insiders said the men had been outside the club for about an hour before the attack.

Sources said the Comedy Cellar staff helped the shocked comic, and he was taken by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital.

The comedy world has been rife with speculation that the incident could be related to Redd’s complicated love life.

He’s dating Christina Evangeline, the estranged wife of “SNL” star Kenan Thompson.

There is nothing to suggest that Thompson was personally involved in the incident.

In September, TMZ reported that Redd, 37, had started dating Evangeline, 33. She had been married to Thompson since 2011, and they have two young daughters.

The former couple split in April, and Thompson, 44, filed for divorce in June.

Redd quit “SNL” in September, shortly before his relationship with Evangeline was revealed.

He had been a member of the iconic NBC show’s cast since 2017, while Thompson is the longest-serving cast member in its history. He joined in 2003.

Redd didn’t respond to our request for comment, nor did the Comedy Cellar or reps for Thompson.
