‘SLAY’ MA DEMON TALK
Chilling new details emerged Monday in the case of the Bronx mom accused of killing her two sons — including how she complained about being “smothered’’ by their dad and shared an eerie quote hours before the slayings.
Dimone Fleming, 22, who was charged late Sunday in the little kids’ deaths, told her father before the grisly murders that she felt stifled in her relationship with the boys’ dad, Columbus Canada — and how she thought he was “the devil.”
“Two hours before it happened, at 5, she called me and said she was feeling smothered,” her father, Dwane Fleming, told The Post on Monday. “She couldn’t breathe. She said it was the relationship with Columbus.
“She said she felt he was the devil, that he had tattoos on his body that pertain to satanic stuff,’’ the grandpa said. “She thought he was the devil because of the
marks he had on his body.”
Canada told The Post, “None of that s--t is true.
“I have star tattoos,’’ the griefstricken dad said, adding that Fleming was likely hallucinating about other symbols because “she was already in her place, in her mood.”
“I’m far from the devil,’’ he said. “I’m nowhere near — always God, man.’’
Dimone is accused of slashing the throats of their 11-month-old son Octavius Canada and 3-yearold boy DeShawn Fleming on Saturday in the family’s apartment in a Mount Hope shelter.
Just hours before the children were found slain, she shared a quote on social media about parents wanting to protect their children.
“I want my children to always know . . . if the relationship ain’t working COME HOME! If the bills become overwhelming COME HOME! If you feel unsafe COME HOME! If something don’t feel right COME HOME!” said the post, originally written by another Facebook user and shared by the
mom Saturday morning. “I want my kids to always know they can come home . . . I never believed in the saying ‘they 18 they grown.’ ”
Meanwhile, court records reveal that a woman bearing the same name and date of birth as Fleming was charged in a child pornography case in York County, Pa., in April of 2018. Details about the case and outcome weren’t immediately available.
Dimone was charged with murdering the boys after admitting her heinous crime to NYPD detectives who interviewed her at St. Barnabas Hospital, where she has been held for psychiatric evaluation since Saturday, police sources told The Post on Monday.
She was initially taken into custody Saturday night after cops responded to the apartment on a report of a woman “acting irrationally” and igniting things in the kitchen. She was found naked on the third floor, police said.
Cops didn’t notice the slain boys buried under a pile of clothes in the bathtub when they took her away. A neighbor had told police that the kids’ dad had them, authorities said.
Police only returned to the shelter about 8 p.m. after a 911 call. The frantic dad, Canada, 31, had entered the apartment to find his sons’ lifeless bodies.
Law-enforcement sources have told The Post that Fleming was obsessed with demonic possession and may have killed her sons because she believed they were possessed.
“She made statements about the devil — unusual statements,” a police source said.
In an earlier Facebook post, she also chillingly wrote, “It’s only one true God and I repent from all wrong doings and negative influence. Leaving all things that’s no longer serves me…… Thank you for your mercy.”
Dimone was previously investigated by the city’s Administration for Children’s Services after DeShawn was born, according to sources, who said she was suspected of improperly caring for the boy.
The findings of the investigation were not known.
Dwane Fleming, 52, said Canada called him after the slain siblings were found and told him the boys were dead and his daughter had been arrested.
“That didn’t make no sense,” the grandpa said. “I talked to her all the time. I spoke to her at least once a week on the phone. She never said anything about the boys overwhelming her.
“She said it was him, that it was Columbus [who] was overwhelming her,” he added. “That he was smothering her. She was unhappy with the relationship.”
Meanwhile, a memorial for the two slain siblings was erected outside the shelter at 246 Echo Place, with acquaintances and passers-by alike stopping to pay their respects.
“Love you DeShawn & Baby O,” read one message. “We will always miss y’all — Uncle Eric.”
Another message, left amid several candles at the scene, read, “Sleep in paradise boys. God have you now. Love always, Shannon.”
