Jones’ 20 leads way for Johnnies

David Jones’ 20 points helped St. John’s defeat New Hampshire, 64-51, on Saturday night at Carnesecca Arena.

Jones added 12 rebounds, four steals and three blocks for the Red Storm (10-1). Joel Soriano scored 14 points and added 14 rebounds. AJ Storr recorded 13 points and shot 5-for-9, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats (3-6) were led by Matt Herasme, who finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Clarence O. Daniels II added 11 points, 11 rebounds and two steals for New Hampshire.

St. John’s carried a slim threepoint lead into halftime, as Jones led the way with nine points. St. John’s outscored New Hampshire by 10 points over the final half, while Jones led the way with a team-high 11 second-half points.

Fletcher Loyer scored a seasonhigh 22 points and Braden Smith made four free throws in the last 28 seconds of overtime to give No. 4 Purdue (10-0, 2-0 Big Ten) a hard-earned, overtime victory over Nebraska (6-5, 0-2) in Lincoln, Neb.

In Storrs, Conn., freshman Donovan Clingan had a career-high 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 5 Connecticu­t (11-0) past Long Island University (1-8).

Kansas 95, Missouri 67

In Columbia, Miss., Jalen Wilson had 24 points and 10 rebounds, K.J. Adams Jr. scored a career-high 19 and No. 6 Kansas (9-1) routed Missouri (9-1) in the Jayhawks’ first visit to their old Big 12 rival in more than a decade.

Arkansas 88, Oklahoma 78

In Tulsa, Okla., Ricky Council IV scored 26 points and Nick Smith Jr. had 21 in No. 9 Arkansas’ victory over Oklahoma.

Arkansas, which improved to 9-1 on the season, led by three at the break and gradually pulled away from the Sooners (7-3) throughout the second half.

In Las Vegas, Azuolas Tubelis scored 21 points and No. 10 Arizona (8-1) defeated No. 14 Indiana (8-2) in the Vegas Clash.

Duke 82, Maryland-Eastern Shore 55

In Durham, N.C., Tyrese Proctor and Dariq Whitehead each scored 15 point,s and the 15th-ranked Blue Devils (10-2) rolled past Maryland-Eastern Shore (3-7) while using an all-freshman starting lineup for the first time.

Kentucky 69, Yale 59

In Lexington, Ky., Oscar Tshiebwe scored 28 points and had 12 rebounds to lead No. 16 Kentucky over Yale. The Wildcats (7-2) pushed their winning streak to four games in a tougher-than-expected contest against the Bulldogs (8-3).

Villanova 77, Boston College 56

At Prudential Center, highly touted freshman Cam Whitmore scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench, leading Villanova (5-5) over Boston College (5-6) in the Never Forget Tribute Classic.

Saint Joseph’s 73, Saint Peter’s 57

In Philadelph­ia, Charlie Brown scored 17 points as Saint Joseph’s (4-5) defeated beat Saint Peter’s (4-5), which had 16 points from Isiah Dasher.
