HOOPS: Hawks outlast Bulls in OT

A.J. Griffin hit a 6-footer on an alley-oop pass at the overtime buzzer and the Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak with a 123-122 victory over the Bulls on Sunday.

DeMar DeRozan sank three free throws with 0.5 seconds remaining in overtime to finish with 33 points as it appeared the Bulls had the game wrapped up. But Griffin, the Archbishop Stepinac product (White Plains), took sideline alley-oop pass from Jalen Johnson and scored the second overtime buzzer-beater of his rookie season (the first coming on Nov. 19 against Toronto.)

Zion Williamson scored 35 points and the Pelicans beat the Suns 129-124 in overtime for their seventh straight victory.

At Barclays Center, Nelly Junior Joseph scored 24 points as Iona (6-2) beat Saint Bonaventur­e 72-57.

In The Bronx, Fordham stretched its winning streak to 10 games, beating Central Connecticu­t State, 90-77. The Rams (11-1) got 25 points from Khalid Moore.

In Riverdale, Earl Timberlake had 23 points in Bryant’s 104-97 overtime victory over Manhattan. Samir Stewart led the way for the Jaspers (3-6) with 35 points.

Ansley Almonor’s 15 points helped Fairleigh Dickinson defeat NJIT 73-71. Sean Moore’s rebound and put-back with 2 seconds gave the Knights the win.

ETC: Theegala, Hoge win

In Naples, Fla., Sahith Theegala made a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole as he and Tom Hoge closed with a 10-under 62 in fourballs and became the first rookie team to win the QBE Shootout in 11 years.

Mississipp­i State coach Mike Leach was hospitaliz­ed Sunday after what the university called “a personal health issue” that happened at his home in Starkville.
