BEA Arthur was no fan of Betty White despite playing the best of friends on “The Golden Girls.” In his new memoir “Sex, Drugs, and Pilot Season,” casting agent Joel Thurm, 80, alleges Arthur and Rue McClanahan thought White’s behavior was “very unkind” to Estelle Getty on the show. “When Estelle would forget her lines, Betty would go out of character and keep the audience laughing by making a gesture with her thumb to her mouth and point to Estelle as if she had been drinking,” Thurm writes. In reality, Getty was suffering from dementia. Thurm recalls that when he cast Arthur in a 1999 show, in between takes she referred to White “asac--t.”
