NHL: Lightning defeat Devils again

Alex Killorn and Ross Colton each scored in the shootout to give the Lightning a 4-3 victory over the Devils on Thursday night in Newark. Steven Stamkos had two goals and an assist for Tampa Bay, who had beaten the Devils, 4-1, on Tuesday night. Timo Meier had two goals in the third period and Tomas Tatar also scored for New Jersey.

NBA: MJ in talks to sell Hornets

Michael Jordan is in “serious” talks to sell a majority stake of the Hornets, ESPN reported Thursday. The reported talks are with a group led by Charlotte minority owner Gabe Plotkin and Hawks minority owner Rick Schnall, and Jordan would likely maintain a minority stake. A deal is not yet close, per the report.

● In Milwaukee, Andrew Nembhard scored 24 points and Aaron Nesmith hit six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points as the Pacers rallied late and beat the Eastern Conference-leading Bucks, 139-123, Thursday night.

● Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball will have a cartilage transplant in his left knee, said the team and his agency, Klutch Sports. The team did not say when the operation will take place or what the timeline for his recovery will be, but reports indicate he would miss another year.

● Hawks guard Bogdan Bogdanovic signed a $68 million, four-year extension that will keep him under contract through the 2026-27 season.

NFL: No charges for Cincy’s Mixon

Bengals running back Joe Mixon will not be indicted in a shooting that occurred near his home in Ohio, according to local officials Thursday. Mixon was seen on surveillan­ce footage carrying a firearm. However, he did not fire any shots and is not a suspect in the case, according to officials.

● Projected first-round pick Jalen Carter, a defensive tackle out of Georgia, was given 12 months’ probation and a $1,000 fine in Athens, Ga., after pleading no contest to misdemeano­r charges of reckless driving and racing related to a crash that killed Bulldogs offensive lineman Devin Willock and a recruiting staff member.

● Despite previous reports that the Eagles were set to release him, cornerback Darius Slay agreed to a $42 million contract extension that includes $23 million fully guaranteed, per multiple reports.

● The Dolphins are signing ex-Jets free agent receiver and return specialist Braxton Berrios to a one-year deal, ESPN reported.

GOLF: Ace gives Brehm lead share

Ryan Brehm turned a good round into a memorable one Thursday, making a hole-inone on the par-3 17th hole at Innisbrook for a 5-under 66 that led to a three-way share of the lead at the Valspar Championsh­ip in Palm Harbor, Fla. Stephan Jaeger also had a 66, while Adam Schenk joined them with the low score on the Copperhead course.

ETC.: Ohtani, Japan oust Italy

Shohei Ohtani pitched shutout ball into the fifth inning and sparked a four-run third with a bunt single, leading Japan over Italy 9-3 Thursday night in Tokyo and into its fifth straight World Baseball Classic semifinal. Japan travels to Miami for a semifinal on Monday against Puerto Rico or Mexico.

● The Women’s World Cup is getting an increase in prize money of more than 300 percent — an increase to $152 million — for this year’s tournament.
