Love flies coop for Seahawks

The Giants said goodbye to Love on Friday.

Safety Julian Love agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal with the Seahawks after four seasons with the Giants.

The 24-year-old, a 2019 fourth-round pick, became a starter in 2022 and had his best season. He led the Giants with 124 tackles and played 95 percent of the snaps.

There were signs that Love would move on. He told SiriusXM NFL Radio last week that the Giants told him he was on the list of players they would talk to after working through a contract for quarterback Daniel Jones and applying the franchise tag to running back Saquon Barkley.

“First and foremost, they told me they had to deal with the big dogs, Daniel [Jones] and Saquon [Barkley], and so I was kind of in the next list of players they need to get done,” Love said during the interview.

Love was offered a contract by the Giants during the bye week last season, but he turned it down.

“Spending four years with the Giants, the staff is just amazing, from the equipment people, training staff, everybody throughout the building each day, it’s a toptier organization for sure,”

Love said on SiriusXM. “My first-through-third year we weren’t good. Finally, we got on the right track and there’s a sense of wanting to finish the job with the team that drafted you.

“But at the same time you just can’t settle. Football careers are so short that you have to get what you feel is fair in the time you are in it.”

Love will now play with former Jets safety Jamal Adams in Seattle. Adams missed all but one game last year due to injury, but is expected to return in 2023.

➤ The Giants cleared some salary cap space by restructuring the contract of new TE Darren Waller, who was acquired Tuesday in a trade with the Raiders. The Giants converted $9.8 million of Waller’s 2023 base salary into a signing bonus. That cleared $7.4 million in salary cap space.

➤ New DL Rakeem Nunez-Roches had a good answer when asked how he believes he’ll fit in on the Giants’ defensive line.

“The biggest thing about me since I’ve been in the league, I’d say my biggest attribute is being a chameleon,” Nunez-Roches said. “Whatever you need, wherever you need me to fill in at, I’ll become that, and I’ll dominate that position. Whatever my coach requires, I’ll be that.”
