MLB: Rays outlast Dodgers
Isaac Paredes homered and drove in four runs as the MLB-best Rays took two of three from the NL West-leading Dodgers with a wild 11-10 victory on Sunday in St. Petersburg, Fla. Luke Raley beat out an infield single leading off the seventh and scored on Wander Franco’s grounder, giving the Rays an 11-10 advantage.
In Atlanta, Ronald Acuna Jr. drove in three runs with four hits, including a tworun single in Atlanta’s seven-run first inning, and the Braves beat the Phillies, 11-4, to split the four-game series.
In Phoenix, Merrill Kelly struck out 10 while pitching effectively into the seventh inning, helping the Diamondbacks beat the Red Sox, 4-2.
In Kansas City, Mo., Edward Olivares hit a 452-foot solo homer in the eighth inning of the Royals’ 3-2 win against the Nationals that damaged a scoreboard at Kaufmann Stadium. The massive drive darkened a small strip on the left side of the scoreboard, and smoke was seen coming from the area where the ball landed.
In Baltimore, Austin Hays singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to cap a three-hit performance, and the Orioles beat the Rangers, 3-2, to avert a threegame sweep.
In Minneapolis, Jose Berrios pitched around a season-high five walks and into the sixth inning for Toronto to beat his old team, and the Blue Jays blanked the Twins, 3-0, for their first series win in four tries.
Liam Hendriks is ready to rejoin the White Sox after recovering from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The team has said all along that his return depends entirely on how he is feeling. He threw live BP on Friday.
GOLF: Grillo takes Colonial playoff
Emiliano Grillo made a 5-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole at Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas, to get his first PGA Tour victory in more than 7 ¹/₂ years, after blowing a two-stroke lead with a doublebogey on the 72nd hole.
Grillo curled in the winning putt at the 186-yard 16th hole, the same hole where he had taken the solo lead before needing a playoff. Grillo and Adam Schenk, who both finished at 8-under 272, had two-putt pars from 26 feet at No. 18 to start the playoff.
In Sterling, Va., Harold Varner III won his first LIV Golf event when he two-putted from about 35 feet for birdie on the par-5 18th hole at Trump National in LIV Golf-DC.
In Frisco, Texas, Steve Stricker beat Padraig Harrington on the first hole of a playoff in the Senior PGA Championship, giving Stricker a sweep of the first two senior majors of the season.
In North Las Vegas, Nev., Pajaree Anannarukarn capped off the longest week on the LPGA Tour with a 3-and-1 victory to win the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play over Ayaka Furue.
In Cromvoirt, Netherlands, Pablo Larrazabal won the KLM Open by two strokes to claim his ninth title on the European tour and a second in the space of four weeks.
EPL: ’16 champ Leicester relegated
Seven years after the most improbable Premier League title triumph of all, Leicester was relegated from English soccer’s top division.
Everton’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth meant Leicester’s 2-1 victory against West Ham was ultimately meaningless, in the process extending Everton’s 69-year stay.

Defenseman Kristian Rubins scored his second goal 1:22 into overtime to lead Latvia to a 4-3 victory over the United States and earn a bronze medal at the ice hockey world championship in Tampere, Finland. The U.S. lost in the bronze medal game for the second straight year.
In Atlanta, NaLyssa Smith scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help Indiana end a WNBA record-tying 20-game losing streak with a 90-87 win over the Dream.
In Cary, N.C., Izzy Scane scored four goals to set two Northwestern scoring records and lead the top-seeded Wildcats to their first NCAA women’s lacrosse championship in 11 years with a dominating 18-6 win over third-seeded Boston College on a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon.
