MLB: Rays trade for RHP Civale

The Rays acquired right-hander Aaron Civale from the Guardians in exchange for Kyle Manzardo — Tampa Bay’s No. 4 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Civale, 28, is 5-2 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts this season.

Luis Rengifo, Randal Grichuk and Chad Wallach hit solo homers and the Angels cooled off the major league-leading Braves with a 4-1 victory in Atlanta. The Angels’ two-way star Shohei Ohtani went 2-for-3 and was robbed of a three-run homer by center fielder Michael Harris II in the ninth.

In Toronto, Gunnar Henderson hit a solo homer, right-hander Kyle Gibson pitched six strong innings and the Orioles defeated the Blue Jays, 4-2.

In Chicago, Joey Votto, Christian Encarnacio­n-Strand and Will Benson each had two hits, and the Reds beat the Cubs, 6-5. With the win, the Reds increased their NL Central lead to 1 ¹/₂ games over the Brewers, who lost in Washington.

In Miami, Taijuan Walker became the first 12-game winner in the major leagues, throwing 6 2/₃ innings in Philadelph­ia’s 4-2 win over the Marlins. The Phillies (57-49) moved a half-game ahead of the Marlins for the third NL wild-card spot.

The Cubs acquired third baseman Jeimer Candelario, along with cash, in a trade with the Nationals. Washington received minor league DJ Herz and Kevin Made. Candelario, 29, one of the top hitters on the market ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, is batting .258 with 16 homers and 53 RBIs in 99 games.

The Mariners traded right-handed closer Paul Sewald to the Diamondbac­ks in exchange for third baseman Josh Rojas, outfielder/first baseman Dominic Canzone and minor league Ryan Bliss. Sewald has a career-high 21 saves, as well as a 3-1 record and a 2.93 ERA.

The Giants acquired outfielder AJ Pollock, utility player Mark Mathias and cash considerat­ions from the Mariners for a player to be named later or cash.
