Thank Soft-on-Crime DAs For Harlem Target Closure

- Ted Rallis Mamaroneck

I find it insane that retail establishments, such as Target, are closing solely because looting and shoplifting are permitted with complete impunity — and I’m sure a multitude of other New Yorkers agree (“Dot’s it! Harlem Target closing,” Sept. 27).

One shoplifter, who is opposed to Target’s closing, had the audacity to complain that the store is where he gets what he “needs.” The irony.

Imagine having to lose income because the liberal idiots elected to office by other idiots are not holding people accountable for their criminality. Ralph Manente

A massive grassroots protest outside the offices of local elected officials and the Manhattan district attorney may be the only way to get their attention.

The loss of retail establishments, big and small, due to crime is another example of how officials have low expectations for their constituents.

Toleration of shoplifting is a humiliating insult by politicians to all residents. Michael Horowitz

When a product or service is defective, consumers voice their disapproval with their wallets — and their feet.

This is the same phenomenon that’s driving Target to close stores from Harlem to San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.

The enforcement of the law is a service purportedly provided by the cities. But enter “progressive” district attorneys, who don’t like the demographic composition of those breaking the law and — voila! — we get lousy, ineffective service.

Like the parents who are yanking their kids from public schools, corporations are justifiably saying “no” to the destructive enactments of the left’s urban social warriors by leaving those communities. In other words, they’re saying: “Not on my dime.” Anthony Parks

Who is Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office kidding by saying there’s a 14% drop in shoplifting?

After years of seeing nothing done when complaints are filed, store owners stop reporting it because it’s a waste of time. Typical leftist talking point.

Target is closing more stores, two in Seattle, three in Portland, three in San Francisco and another in Harlem.

The left-wing liberals will try and spin this into a racial issue, saying Target is leaving neighborhoods of color.

The reason Target and other major corporations are fleeing these cities is crime. These stores are being looted on a daily basis by emboldened thugs who have no fear of consequences.

District attorneys in these cities have all pushed for no bail and practice the “catch and release” method. Many of the individuals who have been caught have lengthy arrest records and need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Enough with the excuses and lies. These individuals aren’t shoplifting to feed their families. They’re stealing to line their pockets with cash. As always, honest, hardworking Americans end up paying for it with higher prices.

Without law and order these cities will fail. It’s time to wake up, America. Michael Greaney

Massapequa

It comes as no surprise that a Target store in Manhattan, as well as others in cities like Portland and Seattle, are closing due to rampant shoplifting.

All of these cities have woke DAs who are soft on crime. When are they going to see that the current policies aren’t working?

Hopefully, the voters will eradicate this problem when these DAs are up for re-election.
