Quincy lobbies for Pro Bowl
Before Quincy Williams took questions Wednesday, he had one for the reporters, photographers and cameramen.
“Did y’all vote already?” the standout middle linebacker asked.
Williams obviously has his eyes on the Pro Bowl.
“Very big deal for me. It’s one of my goals going into the year,” he said. “Just got to get out there and vote, vote, vote.”
Williams is fourth among middle linebackers in voting for the Pro Bowl — behind Fred Warner of the 49ers, Roquan Smith of the Ravens and Foye Oluokun of the Jaguars. Fan voting is one-third of the selection process. Coaches and players also vote for the Pro Bowl.
“I feel like I should be higher,” said Williams, who has produced 110 tackles, a team-best 13 tackles for loss, two sacks and seven passes defensed. “But I can only control what I can control, and that’s the way I play games. It’s not one of those where it’s like, ‘If I get it, I get it, if I don’t, I don’t.’ It’s more like, ‘Nah, I want to get it.’ Every year that’s my goal.”
Just four other Jets are in the top 10 of the voting at their respective positions. Return specialist Xavier Gipson is sixth, punter Thomas Morstead is seventh, strong safety Jordan Whitehead is eighth and fullback Nick Bawden is ninth. Fans have until Christmas Day to submit their final Pro Bowl votes.
➤ Coach Robert Saleh didn’t have much in the way of answers on the next step for Aaron Rodgers. Saleh wasn’t sure if Rodgers will do more in practice this week and doesn’t know if the plan is for Rodgers to be activated by next Wednesday’s deadline. On the possibility of Rodgers playing at all this year, the coach said: “If that bridge comes to us, we’ll cross it.” Rodgers did not practice Wednesday.
➤ There were a number of absences at practice. Defensive linemen John Franklin-Myers (ankle) and Solomon Thomas (knee), receiver Jason Brownlee (ankle) and offensive lineman Carter Warren (hip) didn’t practice. Offensive linemen Max Mitchell (neck) and Mekhi Becton (knee), center Joe Tippmann (shoulder), running back Breece Hall (ankle) and Bawden (knee) were limited.
