NHL: Devils GM signs extension

The Devils signed general manager Tom Fitzgerald to a multiyear contract extension Tuesday, also giving him the additional title of president of hockey operations. Fitzgerald, 55, took over as the fulltime GM in the summer of 2020.

In Edmonton, Alberta, Warren Foegele and Evander Kane each had a goal and an assist, and the Oilers extended their win streak to 14 games with a 4-1 victory over the Blue Jackets.

In Philadelph­ia, Nikita Kucherov had three goals and an assist, and the Lightning beat the Flyers 6-3.

In Detroit, Roope Hintz scored twice as the Stars downed the Red Wings 5-4. NBA: Clippers defeat Lakers

Kawhi Leonard had a triple-double with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, James Harden had 23 points and 10 assists and the Clippers beat the Lakers 127-116 in Los Angeles. D’Angelo Russell led the Lakers with 27 points and LeBron James sat out with left ankle pain.

In Oklahoma City, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 33 points and Jalen Williams added 19 points, including the gamewinner with two seconds left, to help the Thunder beat the Trail Blazers 111-109.

In Indianapol­is, Nikola Jokic had 31 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists as part of his 13th triple-double of the season to help the Nuggets beat the Pacers 114-109.

In New Orleans, CJ McCollum scored a season-high 33 points as the Pelicans set a franchise record for points with a 153-124 victory over the Jazz.

AUSSIE OPEN: Yastremska into semis

Dayana Yastremska reached her first Grand Slam singles semifinal after beating Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-4 at the Australian Open. The 93rd-ranked Ukrainian, who had to qualify for the main draw, wrapped up the victory in 78 minutes.

NCAA: South Carolina tops Kentucky

Ta’Lon Cooper scored 20 points and Jacobi Wright had 14 with four 3-pointers as South Carolina pulled away in the second half and beat No. 6 Kentucky 79-62 in Columbia, S.C.

In Provo, Utah, L.J. Cryer scored 23 points to lead No. 4 Houston to a 75-68 victory over No. 21 BYU

In Norman, Okla., Max Abmas scored 22 points to help Texas roll past No. 11 Oklahoma 75-60.

ETC.: Hoskins joins Brewers

Rhys Hoskins and the Brewers agreed to a $34 million, two-year contract, filling the team’s opening at first base a person familiar with the move confirmed it to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The Raiders are hiring former longtime Chargers general manager Tom Telesco to the same position, NFL Network and ESPN reported.
