Sabathia on ballot next year

- By GREG JOYCE

CC Sabathia’s turn is up next. The former Yankees left-hander is among the group of players who are set to join the next Baseball Hall of Fame ballot later this year, along with near-lock Ichiro Suzuki plus Felix Hernandez and Dustin Pedroia, among others.

Sabathia figures to have a solid shot of eventually being enshrined after a 19-year career in which he was a sixtime All-Star and a Cy Young award winner in 2007, while piling up 3,093 strikeouts, 251 wins and a 3.74 ERA.

After spending 11 of those seasons in The Bronx, eight in Cleveland and half a season in Milwaukee, Sabathia recently said he began to consider what being inducted into the Hall of Fame would mean following a trip there with his son a few years ago.

“That was the first time I really, really, really thought about it,” Sabathia said at the winter meetings last month. “I was like, ‘Damn, I really want to be in the Hall of Fame.’ ”

➤ David Wright is staying on the ballot, at least for another year.

In the first year of his candidacy, the former Mets captain received 24 votes, good for 6.2 percent — above the 5 percent threshold needed to remain on the ballot the following year.

Another former Met, Carlos Beltran, got a boost in votes in his second year on the ballot, receiving 57.1 percent after getting 46.5 percent last year.

➤ Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez, the two players on the ballot who were most connected with the steroid era, both saw a drop in votes. Rodriguez (in his third year on the ballot) went from 35.7 percent last year to 34.8 percent this year, while Ramirez (eighth year) went from 33.2 percent to 32.5 percent.

➤ Count Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo among those who were excited to see Todd Helton elected into the Hall of Fame after growing up a Rockies fan in Wyoming.

“I think it’s well-deserved,” Nimmo told The Post’s Mike Puma. “He was one of the best hitters of the generation and someone that I looked up to and tried to mimic growing up! I’m biased growing up in Wyoming, but when we talked about the best lefthanded hitters in the game … Helton was always in the conversation.”
