Deebo misses practice, leaving status unclear

- Post wire services

Star 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel missed Wednesday’s practice with his injured shoulder, and his status for Sunday’s NFC Championship game remains uncertain.

“His shoulder hurts,” Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters, adding Samuel is “feeling better.”

Shanahan said Monday that Samuel has a 50/50 shot to play against the visiting Lions.

Though the shoulder was not fractured, Samuel is dealing with a lot of pain, but Shanahan “feels better” about the prospect of Samuel playing.

Other than Samuel, Shanahan said everyone else was a full go at practice.

Samuel suffered the injury to his left shoulder in the first half of Saturday’s divisional-round win against the Packers and did not play in the second half. He caught two passes for 24 yards in the 24-21 victory.

➤ Chiefs left guard Joe Thuney, right guard Trey Smith and running back Isiah Pacheco did not practice Wednesday.

Thuney is viewed as the least likely to play in the AFC Championship at Baltimore on Sunday among the five players held out of practice. He’s dealing with a pectoral injury and isn’t expected to practice this week. Smith was held out due to illness but is day-today. Pacheco (toe) sat out the indoor practice but said he “absolutely” plans to play.

Coach Andy Reid confirmed Thuney would not participate in Wednesday’s session due to the injury suffered Sunday. He wasn’t clear on the outlook of the other two players who weren’t available Wednesday, safety Mike Edwards (concussion) and wide receiver Skyy Moore (knee).
