FOOTBALL: Michigan hires Moore

Michigan hired Sherrone Moore on Friday to replace coach Jim Harbaugh, giving the 37-year-old offensive coordinato­r an opportunit­y to lead college football’s winningest program.

The school made the move two days after Harbaugh bolted to lead the Chargers with a five-year deal that gives him another chance to chase a Super Bowl title.

Moore was 4-0, including wins over Ohio State and Penn State, while filling in for Harbaugh as he served two separate suspension­s for potential NCAA rules violations during the 2023 season for the national champions.

TENNIS: Sinner, Medvedev to finals

Jannik Sinner ended one of Novak Djokovic’s perfect streaks in an Australian Open upset in Melbourne, Australia, and then got to relax while Daniil Medvedev rallied from two sets down to beat Alexander Zverev to secure the other place in the final.

The 22-year-old Italian broke Djokovic’s serve twice in each of the first two sets in a surprising­ly lopsided 6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-3 victory that ended the 10-time champion’s unbeaten streak in Australian Open semifinals.

Djokovic had won 33 straight matches at Melbourne since 2018 and never lost here after reaching the final four.

Third-seeded Medvedev appeared down and out after two sets, and was two points from losing in the fourth, but he rallied to beat Zverev 5-7, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5), 6-3 after 4 hours, 18 minutes.

NBA: Mitchell’s 32 leads Cavs

Donovan Mitchell scored 32 points, Jarrett Allen had 24 points and 14 rebounds and the Cavaliers beat the Bucks, 112-100, in Milwaukee for their ninth win in their last 10 games.

Giannis Antetokoun­mpo had 22 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists for the Bucks.

• In Toronto, James Harden had 22 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for his 75th career triple-double and the Clippers thumped the Raptors, 127-107, for their fourth consecutiv­e win.

• In New Orleans, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points and the Thunder routed the Pelicans, 107-83, to improve their NBA-leading road record to 15-8. NHL: Avalanche rout Kings

Logan O’Connor scored two of Colorado’s three first-period goals helping the Avalanche defeat the Kings 5-1 in Denver. The Avalanche have three straight wins and 11 in their last 14 games.

• In Pittsburgh, Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart scored in the shootout to help the Panthers beat the Penguins, 3-2.

• Owen Tippett signed a $49.6 million, eight-year extension with the Flyers ETC.: Hoskins gets two years, $34M

Rhys Hoskins’ $34 million, two-year contract with the Brewers allows the first baseman to opt out of the deal after the 2024 season. Hoskins could get $16 million for one season or $48 million over three years as part of the deal.

• Jurgen Klopp shocked the soccer world by announcing he will step down as Liverpool manager at the end of this season. Klopp has led Liverpool to a Champions League title and Premier League championsh­ip in his tenure after being hired in October 2015.

• In San Diego, Stephan Jaeger sank a 6-foot birdie putt on No. 18 at Torrey Pines South for a one-shot lead in the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open, moments after second place Thomas Detry’s third shot landed well past the hole.

• In Albany, N.Y., Jeremiah Quigley scored 19 points as Iona beat Siena 70-51
