DOUBLE TROUBLE

Teenage 'killer of retired cop nabbed in stab

- By NICHOLAS MCENTYRE

The Las Vegas teen accused of intentionally running over a retired California police chief is now facing new charges of attempted murder connected to a stabbing that happened months before the fatal hit-and-run.

Jesus Ayala, 18, who is awaiting trial in the murder of Andreas Probst, was arrested on Jan. 17 in an “extremely violent” group attack resulting in one person being stabbed multiple times in June.

“Recently it came to our attention that he allegedly was involved in an attempted murder case, a stabbing, so we charged him with crimes resulting in that,” Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson told KSNV.

The stabbing victim suffered multiple wounds, including a large one to the head before he sought treatment at University Medical Center on June 27, reported FOX 5 Vegas, citing a police report.

The patient, who initially told police an ambulance transported him to the hospital, was taken to UMC by his roommate.

One of the ‘big homies’

On the day of the attack, the victim said an unknown man approached him and accused him of stealing something before five others appeared and launched their attack, according to KSNV.

The attack lasted for approximately a minute — any longer, a witness said, and the victim would have been killed by the assailants.

Police found a bloody knife near the scene, but couldn’t provide a “suitable print match” that connected Ayala as a suspect, the report stated. But multiple witnesses have identified the teen as one of the attackers.

The outlet added that one witness said Ayala was one of the “big homies,” while detectives found video sent on Instagram depicting one suspect with an “NC” tattoo on his face. Ayala is sporting an “NC” tattoo in his mugshot.

DNA results haven’t been announced. The teen was identified by the stabbing victim during a Sept. 19 photo lineup.

“We have accused him of doing some pretty serious things. I mean open murder, you can’t get more serious than that, and now an attempted murder charge,” Wolfson told News3LV.

Ayala was interviewed by detectives on Jan. 16 and denied having any involvement with the stabbing, but the charge against the teen was filed on Jan. 19.

“Mr. Ayala is entitled to his day in court, he is entitled to have a good lawyer, he is entitled to cross examine the witnesses, he is entitled to present devices on his own behalf,” Wolfson said.

Ayala is in jail without bail after allegedly killing Probst, who was riding his bicycle on Aug. 14 when the teen and his passenger, Jzamir Keys, 16, recorded themselves deliberately driving a stolen car into the cyclist, authorities said.
