Reid says Toney injury not ‘made up’; Chiefs lose Omenihu

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid rejected the notion that the team was lying about receiver Kadarius Toney’s injury status on the same day Kansas City received some more unfortunate injury news.

The latter came from reports that defensive end Charles Omenihu suffered a torn right ACL in Sunday’s victory over the Ravens in the AFC Championship game and will miss the Super Bowl.

Toney, the polarizing ex-Giants first-round draft pick, was ruled out for the AFC title game with a hip injury and for personal reasons.

But Toney subsequently posted an expletive-laden rant on his Instagram on Sunday morning suggesting that he was healthy and the Chiefs were not being truthful about his availability.

“Yeah, well, obviously he’s been on the injury report,” Reid said Monday about that suggestion. “So that part, that’s not made up by any means. But he’s been working through some things and he’ll be back out there [at practice].”

Toney’s daughter was also born, though he did not address that in his video.

“Y’all reading all this cap-ass s--t? You didn’t believe it, I don’t give a f--k,” Toney said in the video. “Ain’t never been a n---a to do all that but man, that s--t cap.

“I’m not hurt. None of that s--t. Save that s--t. S--k my d--k too. I’m not hurt. None of that. It goes from hip to ankle to this to that.”

Reid said Monday that he had not yet seen the video.

“I actually haven’t seen it,” Reid said. “I heard people talk about it. But yeah, he’ll be back out there.”

It was hardly a surprise that Toney was ruled out. He last played in Week 15, when he dropped a pass that led to an interception during the Chiefs’ 27-17 win over the Patriots.

Omenihu’s absence is a blow to the Kansas City defensive front, as the five-year veteran posted a career-high seven sacks in 11 games this season.
