NFL: Chiefs place tag on CB Sneed

The Chiefs placed the franchise tag on L’Jarius Sneed on Monday, though it is uncertain whether that means one of the top cornerbacks due to hit free agency will remain with the Super Bowl champions next season.

The Chiefs entered the offseason with Sneed and All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones preparing to hit free agency. But the tag number of $19.8 million for Sneed is far more palatable than the roughly $32 million that would be owed to Jones.

The Vikings released running back Alexander Mattison, a move that will clear $3.35 million from Minnesota’s salary cap and leave just $1.25 million in dead money. MLB: Donaldson calling it a career

Josh Donaldson says he’s retiring after a 13-year career in which he was the 2015 AL MVP and was selected to three All-Star games. Donaldson, 38, was among the top third basemen from 2013-17 with Oakland and Toronto, and spent 2022 and most of 2023 with the Yankees. Donaldson finishes with a .261 batting average, .358 on-base percentage, 279 homers and 816 RBIs in 1,383 regular-season games.

NBA: Mitchell out 3 more games

Cavaliers All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell will miss at least the next three games after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection to treat a bone bruise.

Damian Lillard scored 41 points and host Milwaukee overcame the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo to rally past the Clippers, 113-106.

ETC.: Ex-Rangers fuel Blues’ win

In Toronto, Pavel Zacha scored twice to help the Bruins beat the Maple Leafs 4-1.

In Raleigh, N.C., Jared McCain scored 14 of his 16 points after halftime to help No. 9 Duke pull away from N.C. State, 79-64.
