Kissing Up to Wokeness: A Sailor’s Smooch Silenced

-

Give me a break (“Oh kiss off !” March 6)!

Veterans Affairs Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Operations RimaAnn Nelson’s title should be abbreviated to “Chief Birdbrain.”

That photo, recognized worldwide, is the perfect representation of New York’s reaction to V-J Day, ending World War II in the Pacific. Every sailor felt he was the guy in the photo. Thankfully, VA Secretary Denis McDonough was able to reverse the asinine order. Dick Mills

With everything that’s going on in our country, this assistant under secretary has the nerve to send out a memo that an iconic photo needs to be removed.

How dare she inflict her ideology and her thoughts on the American people. My suggestion to Nelson is to resign her position and go get a life. That’s a great photo. Gene O’Brien

Whitestone

The statues are going, the Constitution is being trampled on and the great minds of yesteryear are being sent to the dustbin.

This photo belongs to the Greatest Generation and not to the small minds of today. I am proud to be part of the great ones. S. Kane

Will the left stop at nothing in its efforts to erase our history? Apparently not.

This removal was just another example of the left’s war on American history. Statues have been removed and landmark buildings renamed to appease the woke. Kenneth Fitzgerald

Hicksville

It sickens me that some lefty employed by the VA found it necessary to void one of the most iconic photographs from American history.

The end of World War II and the Japanese surrender were certainly cause to celebrate. Nowhere does the photo suggest inappropriate behavior. Marcia Falk

If I knew where to find Secretary McDonough, I would drag him to New York and plant a kiss on him in the middle of Times Square myself.

Finally, someone with the courage to reverse an absurd, woke order. This iconic photo memorializes a captivating moment from history. Judy Petillo-Eggert
