NHL: Meier’s hat trick leads Devils
Timo Meier scored three goals and added an assist on an empty-net goal by Erik Haula and the Devils beat St. Louis, 4-1 at Prudential Center, giving interim coach Travis Green his first win since replacing Lindy Ruff this week.
In Sunrise, Fla., Garnet Hathaway scored off a rebound with 22 seconds left to give the Flyers a 2-1 victory over the Panthers.
In Boston, Jeremy Swayman made 28 saves and the Bruins beat the Maple Leafs, 4-1.
In Pittsburgh, Alex Ovechkin scored his 840th goal and added an assist to help the Capitals rout the Penguins, 6-0. NFL: Bears, Johnson agree to deal
The Bears and Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson agreed to a four-year, $76 million contract that guarantees him $54.4 million.
Right guard Kevin Dotson agreed to terms on a three-year, $48 million contract to stay with the Rams.
NBA: Edwards, Minny top Indy
Anthony Edwards matched his season high with 44 points to give the shorthanded Timberwolves a 113-111 victory over the Pacers in Indianapolis.
Minnesota announced Karl-Anthony Towns will have surgery next week to address a meniscus tear in his left knee. In Denver, Nikola Jokic recorded his 20th triple-double of the season with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists and the Nuggets defeated the Celtics 115-109.
The Warriors’ Stephen Curry limped off the floor with 3:51 left to play in the fourth quarter of a 125-122 loss to the Bulls. Coach Steve Kerr only said Curry’s right foot was being treated in a bucket of ice.
In Dallas, Luka Doncic had 35 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, and the Mavericks rallied past Miami, 114-108.
ETC.: Lowry leads at Palmer
Irishman Shane Lowry rolled in a birdie at the par-3 17th hole to take a one-stroke lead after one round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Fla. Lowry carded a 6-under 66 to move a shot in front of Justin Lower and Hideki Matsuyama.
In Pullman, Wash., Koren Johnson scored 23 points and Washington won 74-68 over No. 18 Washington State in the final Pac-12 matchup between the cross-state rivals.
In Madison, Wis., AJ Storr scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Wisconsin (19-11, 11-8 Big Ten) to a 78-66 win over Rutgers (15-15, 7-12).
In Riverdale, Shaquil Bender had 20 points in Manhattan’s (7-21, 4-15 MAAC) 77-60 win over Iona (14-16, 9-10).
Right-hander Brayan Bello and the Red Sox agreed to a $55 million, six-year contract.
