SOCCER: Red Bulls win home debut

Lewis Morgan scored his second goal in as many matches, Emil Forsberg opened his MLS account from the penalty spot and the Red Bulls held on for a 2-1 victory over FC Dallas in their home opener at Red Bull Arena. Forsberg scored in the 30th minute and assisted on Morgan’s finish in the 54th minute to help the Red Bulls improve to 2-0-1.

• Antony Alves Santos scored the tying goal in the 85th minute and Evander Da Silva Ferreira scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time as the Portland Timbers rallied for a 2-1 victory over New York City Football Club at Yankee Stadium. NYCFC fell to 0-3-0 for the first time in team history.

NBA: Celtics defeat Suns

Jayson Tatum scored 29 points, Jaylen Brown added 27 and the NBA-leading Celtics beat the Suns 117-107 in Phoenix.

• In Detroit, Luka Doncic scored 39 points, had 10 assists and 10 rebounds to became the first NBA player to record six consecutiv­e 30-point triple-doubles in the Mavericks’ 142-124 win over the Pistons.

NHL: Hurricanes double up Devils

Jesperi Kotkaniemi broke a tie with a badangle shot early in the third period and Pyotr Kochetkov made 24 saves to lead the Hurricanes to a 4-2 win over the host Devils.

Nico Hischier and Timo Meier scored for the Devils. Nico Daws made 23 saves.

• In Columbus, Luke Evangelist­a scored a tie-breaking goal in the third period and the Predators beat the Blue Jackets, 2-1, for their the 10th win in 11 games.

NFL: Chiefs give Jones big deal

The Chiefs and Chris Jones agreed lon the framework of a five-year contract that includes $95 million guaranteed and keeps the All-Pro defensive tackle off the free agent market, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press . ... The Broncos have agreed to send wide receiver and former first-round pick Jerry Jeudy to the Browns for a pair of 2024 draft picks, according to The Associated Press.

ETC.: Scheffler, Lowry rally

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, one-putted his final seven greens, four of them for birdie, for a 2-under 70 to share the lead with Shane Lowry at the Arnold Palmer Invitation­al in Orlando, Fla.
