Bogus Gaza Death Stats

-

Huh: Those “Gaza health ministry” numbers on deaths from the Hamas-Israel war turn out to be transparently made up from whole cloth, as Abraham Wyner conclusively points out in The Post. Which is a damning lesson on the credulity of the world media and the gazillion politicians across the globe who’ve been repeating the stats as if they meant something — with no less than President Biden then falsely charging that Israel’s tactics are “over the top.”

Wyner’s critique is devastating: The daily reported death tolls rise in a straight line, about 270 a day — which makes zero sense, since in any war some days see far greater fighting and bombing than others.

Plus, there’s no correlation between the reported numbers of children and women slain each day (when most kids are surely near their mothers), or between the numbers of women and men.

Also, the ministry claims that 70% of the dead are women and children, while Hamas admits to losing 6,000 of its (male) combatants — which would mean that almost no male civilians have been killed.

The obvious conclusion is that the ministry is just (clumsily) making it all up. It’s definitely not presenting real info gathered from across Gaza.

Yet these numbers get used everywhere. Responsible outlets are careful to say they come from “the Hamas-run Gazan health ministry,” but that still treats the “data” as having some meaning — when they don’t.

Yes, life is hellish in Gaza: There’s no decent shelter and no reliable supply of food and water — unless you’re a Hamas gunman; the terrorists take care of themselves only.

And both sides have killed some civilians (Israel inadvertently; Hamas, intentionally, to try to stop its human shields from running away).

But everyone tut-tutting over Israel’s conduct bringing “excessive” deaths, including Biden, is just blowing smoke out their butts — posturing to “show they care.”

Not about the truth, obviously.
