Biden Blocks Israel Aid: Shameless, Political Play

-

How much lower can our shameless president sink (“Biden is tying Bibi’s arms,” May 9)?

After initial support for Israel following Hamas’ barbaric attack, President Biden has halted arms shipments to Israel that were approved by Congress. In Biden’s world, support for Israel translates into hollow words at a Holocaust memorial ceremony.

My suggestion: Quit the phony rhetoric and provide Israel with what it needs to neutralize Hamas, reject funding from those who perpetuate campus antisemitism and be the leader you were elected to be in dealing with Iran and other promoters of terror and antiAmerican actions. Biden is now withholding munitions that Israel has been duly authorized to receive by Congress to combat Hamas’ terrorist army.

He says Israel has the right to destroy Hamas yet Hamas is embedded within a civilian population in Rafah.

The president now needs to decide if he will stand with critics of Israel or if he can drop his craven political instincts and allow morality and decency to prevail in Israel’s existential war against Hamas.

That requires entry into Rafah to destroy the remaining terrorist battalions. Matthew Brief Manhattan

President Biden’s administration wants it both ways: to unconditionally arm the Israeli state against Gaza and to keep the anti-war voters onboard come election time.

But a sizable chunk of traditionally Democratic voters — adamantly against and angry about the alleged large-scale starvation and mass slaughter by Israel against Palestinian noncombatants — credibly threaten to abandon Biden at the ballot box.

When the president finally called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the timing gave it the strong odor of political expediency — for reelection purposes.

It’s doubtful many proPalestinian demonstrators will forgive Biden come Election Day. Frank Sterle Jr. White Rock, Canada

Any US attempt to complicate Israeli operations will neither hasten the war’s end nor bring peace.

The Biden administration should recognize that Gaza is just one front in a global war being waged against the United States by Iran and its axis. Charles Michael Sitero Ormond Beach, Fla.
